Adhd

mom adhd, brain fog, women adhd, a.d.d., mother, mommy brain

Historically, when people mention ADHD, images of energy filled, grade school boys come to mind, and while this characterization can be one obvious group of ADHD-having people, many people struggle with inattentive type ADHD. Inattentive type ADHD people, are often able to hide or compensate for their ADHD symptoms and the most visible symptoms are often related to mood or anxiety, which are then misdiagnosed. [1]

Common (and uncommon) symptoms of ADHD can include:

  • Forgetfulness

  • Disorganization

  • Stagnancy

  • Indecision

  • Inability to sustain focus on tasks you are disinterested in

  • Hyperfocus on tasks you are interested in (sometimes to the detriment of other things which need to get done)

  • Chronic issues with lateness / time management

  • Difficulty relaxing

  • Easily overwhelmed with demands of relationships

  • Hypersensitive to sensory information

  • Impulsivity

How can I help in this realm:

If you are struggling with attentional issues, I can help.  You don't have to have an official ADHD diagnosis to work with me on this!  In fact, many of my clients don't. While ADHD (particularly in women) is often missed, there are also things like unresolved trauma, attachment issues, physiological issues e.g. thyroid conditions, which present very similar symptoms... and it doesn't matter if your symptoms are officially ADHD or ADHD-like, the fact is, they are making your life unmanageable. We can work together to solve this through:

  • Individual therapy to help clear trauma blocks which maybe making symptoms worse

  • Executive function work

  • Education

  • Hacks to your current systems and environment

  • Support group
